Carla Del Ponte, former chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia,[said last week's arrest of Ratko Mladic](http://www.euronews.net/2011/05/26/mladic-a-chief-prosecutor-s-perspective/) was "very important for international justice" and "a success" for the tribunal she once headed. In April 2010, the Auschwitz Institute for Peace and Reconciliation awarded its first Raphael Lemkin Prize to Del Ponte in honor of her outstanding work on behalf of genocide prevention. The other 2010 Lemkin Prize recipient was Juan E. Mendez, who served from July 2004 to March 2007 as the first Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide.
